Downers Grove

With the population of approximately 50,000, Downers Grove is the biggest small town in the near western suburbs. Essentially, it is two towns in one.

The northern section of Downers Grove features a quaint downtown, which borders the Burlington-Northern/Santa Fe Railway. The housing stock ranges from custom, new construction to turn-of-the-century Victorians, situated on streets lined with old growth trees. Some of the streets are made of paver bricks. This section of town offers walk-to convenience. It is serviced by the Downers Grove North High School.

The southern section of Downers Grove is arranged in a traditional subdivision format with semi-custom quality homes. This area is serviced by the Downers Grove South High School. It resembles a classic suburbia. It is serviced by the Downers Grove South High School.

The downtown of Downers Grove has embraced the gentrification of the town by constructing a multi-deck parking garage, which adequately supports the upscale boutiques, restaurants and shops, which populate this well-supported business district.

Downers Grove has three separate commuter train depots. This is a dream for commuters. They are known as the Fairview Avenue, Main Street and Belmont Avenue Stations. The Main Street station is the envy of the entire Chicago metropolitan area as it has some of the best express train schedules in the entire Chicago Metropolitan area. The express trains can bring people into the city in under 25 minutes. Those who use the Main Street station are affectionately known as train snobs.
