Everyone just loves the way LaGrange feels.
LaGrange is a near western suburb with the most vibrant downtown in the entire area - hands down! In fact, the central business district's catch phrase is "Ahh LaGrange." This is a town where former city of Chicago residents move when they need to move from the city (usually because they have kids), but don't want to lose the city energy.
LaGrange IL is a very walkable city. Those who commute into Chicago (about 21 minutes by rail) take the train because it's fast, easy and cheap. You can usually tell who these people are as they tend to mock their co-workers whose commutes (from places like Naperville) are double and triple the time. While this is a very small town, there are two Metra train stations.
Essentially, the schools, shops, restaurants (and there are lots of them) are extremely close by and well-supported by the LaGrange residents. Also, they are well-supported by residents of neighboring towns (like Hinsdale and Western Springs) whose downtowns just don't compare.
LaGrange's housing stock is completely custom. You won;t find any subdivisions here. Instead, you'll find 100 year old Victorians that peacefully co-exist alongside new traditionally designed homes. Without deviation, the architecture is traditional.
